This morning in Ripton in less than an hour we recorded the following: 2 Black-and-white Warblers, 3 Nashvilles, 2 Magnolias, 8 Black-throated Greens, 3 Black-throated Blues, 2 Blackburnians, 6 Chestnut-sided, 1 Canada, 1 American Redstart and 2 Common Yellowthroat. Also, about 6 empis, 2 Blue-headed Vireos, 6 Gray Catbirds, 1 Broad-winged Hawk and about 25 each Cedar Waxwing and American Robin. Several other common species joined in the fun.
This location is very much worth visiting again, especially for people close to the town of Ripton. The exact location is off Route 125, east of the Bread Loaf Campus. Take Brooks Road to the right, and in less than a quarter-mile, turn right to the parking area for the Chatfield kiosk. This is at the intersection of the Sucker Brook Trail and the Widows Clearing Trail.
Also today about 50 Turkey Vultures feeding on a dead cow on the Salisbury Flats. This location might be worth checking in case a Black Vulture shows up!! At Dead Creek one adult Bonaparte's Gull in breeding plumage at Brilyea Access and 2 adult Common Moorhen with 7 chicks in the marsh just east of the Route 17 bridge at Brilyea.
