There has been some great birding at Noblewood Park in Willsboro, NY
recently, and I will try to post complete details tonight, but I just
wanted to post a quick message now to report that Julie Hart and I found
two LITTLE GULLS at Noblewood this morning (24 August 2004). The birds
were in the company of about 60 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 12 COMMON TERNS, and a
small number of RING-BILLED GULLS, and they were quite easy to observe and
photograph. I believe that one Little Gull was an adult winter bird, while
the other was a second-winter bird. Both had all-white wingtips, but one
had dark underwings and the other showed mostly light underwings with some
dark areas. I have at least a few good pictures of the birds, and will try
to make them available later this evening.
Unlike this weekend, when Noblewood was quite crowded, there was
nobody else there this morning except for Larry Master, his wife, and their
friends, who we were quite happy to see. Good luck if you go to look for
the Little Gulls!
