Vermont 1, Wyoming 1 (2ot)
September 4, 2004 * Laramie, Wyo. * Brown & Gold Tourney

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Vermont Catamounts took home the Brown and Gold Tournament
title with a 1-1 tie versus the hosts, Wyoming Cowgirls. The Catamounts earned
the trophy with a record of 1-0-1 in the tournament which included a 2-0
victory over Northern Colorado on Friday.

“The coaching staff couldn't be prouder of this team at this moment,” said head
coach Kerry Dziczkaniec. “All of us found a way to leave Wyoming with the
tournament trophy. Our work ethic and belief in each other has led to our
success this season.”

For the second straight game, Vermont (2-1-1) scored in the first 10 minutes of
action. Senior Leah Felis (Stowe, Vt.) served a ball into the penalty box and
sophomore Amy Cochran (Keene, N.H.) was able to finish it off with a pretty
header at the 9:24 mark. Vermont would hang onto the 1-0 lead as the teams
headed into halftime.

Wyoming(1-1-2) pressured UVM to start the second half, out shooting the
Catamounts 6-1 in the first seven minutes. In the opening minute, senior Mari
Gomes (San Jose, Calif.) sent a blast at the Vermont net but goalkeeper Lindsey
Carfagna (Moon Township, Pa.) knocked the ball over the crossbar. Carfagna
boxed another ball out of harms way on a Cowgirl corner kick in the 55th minute
and broke up a Wyoming breakaway in the 58th minute.

Wyoming knotted the game up, 1-1, when Gomes picked up a loose ball at the top
of the penalty box and sent an unassisted blast from 20 yards out past Carfagna
in the 61st minute.

Vermont had two opportunities in the closing minutes. Cochran sent a blast from
the right side of box towards the net, but just missed the lower left corner of
the goal. In the 85th minute Felis served a corner kick into the penalty box
that set off a scramble, but the Catamounts couldn't finish the off the
opportunity.

At the end of regulation, Wyoming held an 18-9 advantage in shots over Vermont.

In the first overtime, Carfagna broke up another breakaway opportunity by Mercy
Adetoye (Englewood, Colo.) for Wyoming in the 95th.

In the second overtime, Cochran drilled the left post in the 103rd minute for
Vermont's best scoring opportunity of the overtime session.
Carfagna finished the game with a career-high nine saves in a strong performance
in the Vermont net. Ashley Sheppard (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was credited with
three stops for Wyoming.

Junior Jamie Koehnlein (Honeyoe, N.Y.) was named the tournament's MVP. She
anchored the midfield for the Catamounts and scored once versus Northern
Colorado. Teammates Steph Mead (Victor, N.Y.), Felis, and Carfagna joined
Koehnlein on the all-tournament squad.

Vermont returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Siena at 1:00pm at
Centennial Field. Tickets will be available at the gate and can also be
purchased online at uvmathletics.com or via the phone at 1-866-4CAT-TIX.
