Lee asked about getting rid of the pigeons who are gobbling all his seed.
Here are a few suggestions: First, don't ever buy corn and always use
high-quality mixes that don't contain corn. Second, use tube feeders or feeders inside
wire cages rather than platform feeders. (Platform feeders and seed scattered on
the ground are the prime pigeon attractors!) Third, serve speciality seeds
only, in appropriate feeders (like niger seed in thistle seed feeders, peanuts
in peanut feeders, and sunflower seed in those big balls or good
"squirrel-proof" hoppers. Fourth, put out safflower seed. Many birds like this (especially
cardinals), but starlings and pigeons don't seem to. Fifth, don't toss around
table scraps like stale bread. (Or, if you're like me and have wonderful crows
who wait for the stuff each morning, put out just a little at a time and
quickly put leftovers in the compost heap.)
I hope this helps!
