The osprey at Otter Creek continue to offer great views. Check out the
conspicuous dead tree on the far bank of the river heading west on the Basin
Harbor Road. I could not for the life of me see the nest that was in this tree
earlier in the season, though.
Elsewhere a flock of at least two hundred comorants was moving back and
forth at a windy Button Bay. I believe that I have seen this same group of birds
further south in Panton previously. Kingfishers were present in abundance at
both Otter Creek and Brilyea, actively fishing. The pied-billed grebes at
Brilyea continue to amuse. Likewise, numerous great blue herons and great egrets
(though fewer than a few weeks ago) are still observable at Brilyea.
Finally, the resident osprey at Dead Creek put on a fine display of hovering and
fishing before departing with catch in tow.
