A beautiful day at Mt. Philo today for Rutland
County Audubon's Broad-winged Hawk Watch. By all
accounts this was one of the best years for this
annual event with the 739 broad-wings
recorded!20+ participants oohed and aahed at the
sight of three kettles of 71, 58, and 44 each.
Other species for the day included 6 bald eagles,
1 red-tailed hawk, 9 sharp-shinned hawks, 1
Cooper's hawk, 7 American kestrels, 1 northern
harrier, 8 osprey, 1 merlin, and 30 non-migrating
turkey vultures as well as the resident ravens.
Quiet bird time was filled a lot of laughter
along with the with the identification of
dragonflies, butterflies, spiders, etc.
