Anne Riker and I made a quick trip to Dead Creek on
Tuesday mid-morning. We were entertained by 2 Great
Egrets, 2 juvenile Black-Crowned Night Herons, and a
Great Blue which would fly in croaking at them all to
move off HIS spillway. Watched 2 Ospreys fishing, a
juvenile PB Grebe, also a lone RW Blackbird. On the
way out of the access saw 3 male & several female Wood
Ducks, plus another juv. PB Grebe, and flyover by a
very dark GB Heron. No Bald Eagles or geese at all.
Only 3 RVs and no hunters! Also seen: Ospreys at the
NY 9N junction, huge flock of unidentified gulls at
the fort, plus 2 Black-backed on top of the bridge.
Shelagh Smith in Leicester.
