Recycle This! presents . . .
Recycle Your Electronics Day
Saturday, October 2nd, 2004
12 noon to 3 p.m.
Prospect Park West at Grand Army Plaza
Park Slope, Brooklyn
Located by the Greenmarket at the Northwest entrance to Prospect Park.
By train: Take Q or B to 7th Ave., follow Flatbush Ave. to the park.
You can also take the IRT, 2 or 3 trains, to Grand Army Plaza.
RECYCLE YOUR OLD ELECTRONICS! Electronic Waste contributes less than 10% of
the volume to landfills and approximately 70% of the toxicity. Monitors
contain 3-5 pounds of lead. At the last Electronics Waste Recycling Day
Recycle This! held in April of 2004, we collected three TONS of materials
within 3 hours. All materials that were kept OUT OF the landfill! (note:
NYC exports 12,000 tons of residential waste A DAY. Anything that reduces
that amount is a good thing.)
Here's your chance to find your working or non-working computer (and other
electronics) a new home!
Recycle This! is working with Per Scholas, a non-profit organization in the
South Bronx, which refurbishes and resells computers at low cost to schools
and low-income families. They also train disadvantaged community members
and provide environmentally- responsible recycling of computer equipment at
their state-of-the-art recycling facility.
There will be some 'freecycling' on site - stop by to see what's been
donated. (One item per person.)
There is a suggested donation of $10 per item to help support the work of
Per Scholas' recycling program and to cover costs of this effort.
