Late this afternoon there were more SNOW GEESE at the viewing area than
had been reported on the list earlier this week -- at least 1000 maybe
2000 or more (I'm not very confident in my estimates). While I was
there, I watched a large group (500?) in the distance to the west. They
were flying south, apparently following the lake, then made a sharp left
turn and flew east to the viewing area. I'm assuming they saw the other
geese and came to join them. Makes me wonder, if the others hadn't
already been there, would they have missed their stopover?
Also saw about 100 CANADA GEESE, a female NORTHERN HARRIER, a COMMON
MOORHEN, a PIED-BILLED GREBE, 15 MALLARDS, and 4 WOOD DUCKS.
In the vicinity of the dam at the end of West Road: 100's of RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS and a BELTED KINGFISHER.
Between McCuen and Crown Point Bridge: 22 TURKEY VULTURES.
