No, you just need to configure your client correctly. :)
Sending email from off-campus is easy if you turn on SSL (which we require
from off-campus because we require authentication so spammers can't use
our gateways to send email to the world). Just set SSL for smtp to yes,
or "if available", and make sure you enable authentication for smtp too.
