This is a great series of responses!
I was most disheartened to read Alex's Little Glassywing (Pompeius verna)
submission. A noted lepidopterist on Long Island, Steve Walter, also called
this a Little Glassywing. I had disagreed, owing to the lack of white
scaling at the base of the antennae clubs (although there might be a hint
of it there), which is what started this whole dispute in the first place.
Like a few others, I went with Dun Skipper (Euphyis vestris). I recall
seeing somewhere, perhaps Glassberg (sorry, Alex), an aberrant example of
Dun Skipper with that purplish ground color. But, like David Hoag, who
emailed me directly, I really like that hint of gold on the head for Dun
Skipper. I see it a lot on that butterfly.
