I recently received some rock samples for C and O isoptope analysis of the
siderite component. However the siderite makes up only 2-5% of the entire
matrix (calcite/dolomite/kaolinite primarily). Following Al-Aasm et
al's(1990) protocol I attempted to separate the siderite CO2 on our acid
digestion system at 50oC over several days while in the interim "siphoning"
off the gas eluded from calcite/dolomite digestion. Yields were very poor
on my AP2003 (GVI 2003) now) even 10 days after first acid drop and at
elevated detection levels on the mass spec. I even started with 25mg
material! My question is thus, can anyone recommend another protocol or
suggest more recent reading matter or have any input to the problem. As I
try to resolve the problem Id appreciate any thoughts.
