Dan Susslin owned that place for years.

I remember him from ski racing, while I was a junior racer and he was
at UVM, and I recall he was a very intense competitor.  Years later I
skied with him out west and then saw him several times in Stowe, on
the hill or in Burlington when I was back in Vermont for grad school
in the late 90's.

When I saw that Action Outfitter's was closing I had to wonder why - I
had no idea he was in this battle for so many years.

DANIEL SUSSLIN

STOWE/ST. ALBANS — After a graceful, courageous, 11-year battle with
brain tumors, Daniel Emil Susslin, age 45, passed away Friday, August
27, 2004, surrounded by his family at his home on the River Road in
Stowe.

Dan grew up amidst his large, boisterous family in St. Albans. He was
a passionate lover of sports, enjoying waterskiing on the lake,
hunting, fishing, soccer, baseball, and especially skiing. Dan's ski
racing career began at Hard 'Ack soon after he learned to walk. This
led him to ski teams at Smugglers' Notch and Stowe, and at age 18 a
venture out west and a successful pro tour. Dan represented Solitude
and Breckenridge Ski Areas, and was then lured back to the East to
race and start his ski shop behind Moriarty's in Stowe. "Action
Outfitters" soon moved up the Mountain Road, and Dan (a.k.a. the ski
doctor) expanded the shop into a year-round mecca for outdoor
recreation.

Dan had many loving, loyal friends from St. Albans, Stowe, UVM and
beyond. He loved carving a beautiful GS turn on the Nosedive, sighting
his rifle in the woods with his brothers and friends, and angling on
rivers from Vermont to Alaska.

Dan is survived by: his parents, Bev and Gould Susslin of St. Albans;
his three sisters, Gayle Erdman and her husband Douglas Gardner, of
Hinesburg, Karen and her husband, Nicholas Glouchevitch, of Moscow,
and Nana and her husband, Christopher Boffa, of Charlotte; his three
brothers, Brian and his wife Dorothy, of St. Albans, Andrew and his
wife Lisa, of St. Albans, and Jason and his wife Tracy, of Reno, NV;
his 13 nieces and nephews, Taylor, Jennifer, Emmett, Ian, Kate, Erik,
Meghan, Ryan, Rachael, Danielle, Allie, Cole and Seth; and he leaves
behind many special friends. Dan was predeceased by his grandparents:
Frank and Daisy Denning, and Helen and Joseph Susslin.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday, Aug. 29, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at
Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe. There will be a mass of Christian
burial on Monday, 11:00 a.m., at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church
on the Mountain Road in Stowe. A graveside service will be held on
Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross cemetery in St. Albans.
Arrangements are in the care of Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Dan's memory may be made to Lamoille Home
Health Agency, 54 Farr Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661.
