Actually Tahoe is just a bit better than average right now. We picked up
snows in late October/early November but then went into a period of sun and
no snow. The area I patrol at had to shut down one of its primary lifts as
there wasn't enough snow. Actually had to turn on the dreaded snow making.
Makes a lot of noise for all that white stuff of marginal quality. Thanks to
some of the lesser talented snowboarders, we had to shut down some of the
off piste chutes.

The good news is that we picked up 18" over the weekend which was great
frosting and allowed us to open some more groomers but the more interesting
terrain still needs some more snow.

You have to remember that some places of Squaw, as an example, need at least
6' of consolidated snow on the ground before it can open.

Mammoth is a hundred miles from Tahoe so be careful in generalizing
conditions. Similar to saying that Mt. Sneux is in good shape because Pico
is good. They appeared to pick up a fair amount of the inside slider of two
weeks ago while Tahoe didn't get anything of significance out of it.
