HI everyone
I am writing to ask you to save the date of Monday April 11. At that time,
Professor Glenn Loury will be giving the Florence Davis Deane lecture in the
Economics Department. Loury is a Professor of Economics and the Director of the
Institute on Race and Social Division at Boston University.
His topic is "The Superficial Morality of Color-Blindness", which is based on
his book The Anatomy of Racial Inequality (Harvard University Press, 2002).
The lecture will be at 3:45 on Monday April 11 in Lafayette L207. I encourage
you all to attend. I just heard Loury speak at tne annual economics meetings in
Philadelphia and he is a great speaker, whom I am quite sure you will learn a
lot from. His thinking on racial inequality sheds new light on this subject.
From Professor Elaine McCrate who is organizing this event:
"There will also be a lunch for students with Loury. Attendees will include this
year's Ec 153 ISSP class, which will be reading his book. Econ Club students
are also invited to the lunch, if they are willing to read a couple chapters
from the book beforehand. (The food will be free, but -- I can't resist --
there really is no such thing as a free Lunch!)
For more information, contact Elaine McCrate (contact info below). She can give
you the reading materials, specific time and location for the lunch, etc.
