An adult northern shrike was seen on the road bihind Bird Mountain in Castleton as part on the Christmas Bird Count. The bird was along a large patch of dogwood bordering some woods just before the "picnic shelter" near the end of the road. It was perching on a broken branch sticking out of the dogwood as well as the trees behind the field.
Other notables included three black ducks, a cowbird, a red-bellied woodpecker, and a red-breasted nuthatch. Cardinals were absent from our section.
