With Shelburne Bay mostly iced in (and a few fishing shanties creeping out
of the inlet into the bay), the large flock of goldeneyes previously described
in the bay has shifted over to the lake side, accompanied by a few common
mergansers, joining the resident half dozen or so black ducks there. Also, I
spotted a single, lonely male ring-necked duck swimming among these birds
close to the shoreline. Across from Shelburne Farms, perched on a power line, was
the familiar red-tailed hawk that patrols this area.
