Six members of Rutland County Audubon ventured
north to view the great gray owls yesterday at
L'Ile-Bizard in Montreal. What a spectacular
sight - the magnificent owls against a bright
blue sky. There were at least six, probably seven
owls in the area. So many that we and members of
a local bird club had time to spend several
minutes admiring a robin and a singing cardinal.
A couple questions: Do these birds all come from
the same area further north? Do they travel
together? Or was there just a deal from a local
travel agent promoting L'Ile-Bizard for the
winter?
Also, there was an obvious difference in coloring
especially in the facial disk. Some are lighter
than others. Is this due to a difference in age
or is there a variation among birds? None of my
bird books show this.
