I have had a few people contacting me via email about the Wheater seen on
Dec 19. Sorry I have not returned the emails. Some were when we were out of town
for the holidays and today has been the first time I have had the time to
I have not had the opportunity to find this bird myself , yet. I don't know
much more then I stated in the last email about where to find it either. It
was seen at "The Pines" which sounds like a summer camp resident area on the
Georgia shore of Lake Champlain. It was seen by Peter Mallett and friends. He
lives in Georgia, has no email that I know of, and I am not sure I am free to
give out his number. He may be in the phone book. I was told that "The Pines"
is located fairly near to the intersection of Mill River Rd and the shore
road in Georgia. There is a drive that is blocked with a gate. It says "no
parking" but the CBC counters parked there, walked down the drive to the shore
and saw the bird on the shore and in a tree on the shore.
The only thing that I can add is that a Northern Wheater was reported seen
last spring (April) in Georgia, VT. It was reported in "Winging It" the
newsletter of the ABA in their June 2004 issue.
If anyone has seen the bird, please let me know. (and I am sure the rest of
the list would like to hear too). I have received a Rare Bird Report and will
be sending that into the CBC organizers and will see if they think it is
supported enough to accept it. Hope so. Liz, in Georgia, VT
