about this important month.

1. Campus News ----------------------------
Out of requests from students, SGA met with the directors of Parking and
Transportation and agreed to change the Late Night Shuttle route. The new
route will include stops at Trinity campus during each loop. Previously, the
bus would only stop at Trinity if asked. For a list of scheduled stops see
item 8 below.
With the recent tragedy that occurred Sunday at Redstone Apartments,
please take precaution and purchase a carbon monoxide (CO) detector. If you
are renting you can ask your landlord to provide the CO detector, however, they
are not required to do so by law. If your landlord declines, please spend the
money to purchase a CO detector from a nearby hardware store. CO is colorless
and odorless and can be lethal. The detector ranges from $25 to $50 depending
on the brand and capability. It is worth the investment.

2. DID YOU KNOW? ----------------------------
**Enron has nothing on my financial woes**
Are you cash strapped after buying books and still need to find a
work-study job? UVM offers an abundance of work study opportunities. Anything
from Research Assistant to Lifeguard to receptionist at a resident hall. To
find out how to find a work study job you will like follow this link:
http://www.uvm.edu/career/?Page=students/work_study/job_opportunities.html&SM=students_submenu.html

To see current work-study jobs that are available follow this link:
http://www.uvm.edu/career/?Page=students/work_study/job_opportunities.html&SM=students_submenu.html#search

If you don’t have work study then you can look into the following on campus
jobs: Chatty Cats: http://www.alumni.uvm.edu/phone/
UVM TPS Shuttle Driver: (802) 656-8012 ask for Mary Provost or Mike Altman
Fletcher Allen Health Care: (802) 847-2722

**Interior Decorating on a Martha Stewart Prison Budget**
Recycle North on Pine Street offers an abundance of second hand gentle used
household items. From electronics to furniture Recycle North has it all. So
head on down if you need to jazz up your dorm room. A perky about going to
Recycle North is that you will be supporting a non-profit and the prices on
items reasonably accommodate a college student’s budget. You can visit Recycle
North online at: http://www.recyclenorth.org/ or at their store location on 266
Pine Street in Burlington.

CoSAC needs your help. Do you have an idea for future “Did you know” tips? If
so please e-mail Andrew Kehl at [log in to unmask] This could be a question you
want answer, and interesting fact, or a tip that you think will benefit the UVM
community. All ideas and thoughts are welcomed.

3. SGA Club of the Week ----------------------------

                         UVM’s Vantage Point

You might not know this, but UVM has a magazine especially developed for
celebration of the arts, everything from poetry, prose, photography, drawings,
paintings, and prints can be found here. It is the goal of Vantage Point to
provide a forum for artistic and literary expression for those affiliated with
the University. Their weekly meetings are in Old Mill Room 500; they are
currently looking for new submissions and new members. Think you have an
artistic eye, a since for flare fashion and style, then check out Vantage
Point. No experience is necessary and all students are encouraged to join. For
more information please e-mil Rachel Brown (Editor): [log in to unmask] or

4. Black History Month events ----------------------------
In honor of Black History Month, we will be sending out biographies of
Black pioneers in America who have made some kind of impact within the
Black/African-American community, the nation, and the world. Black history is
one of many cultural histories that have been left out of our formal educations
throughout the United States. It is only necessary for us to educate ourselves
about the historical events that have taken place and consequently, have
transformed American society forever.
The ALANA Student Center will be emailing a biography each day to raise our
awareness of the many intelligent, dynamic, and passionate
Black/African-Americans that have lived before us, as well as those who live
among us. Student Government will send out a biography each week. We hope you
enjoy the upcoming biographies and take the time to actively educate yourself
about the Black Pioneers of our time.

This week James Meredith is the featured African-American.

Below are upcoming events focused on Black History month:
2/5/05 Urban Flava Performance, @ 1pm, Patrick Gym
2/10 Black Histroy themed Rythm and Brews, @ 8pm, Fire Place Lounge, L/L
2/11 BSU sponsered Breakfast at the ALANA Student Center 9am
2/15, A hair Discussion, at the ALANA Center 7pm
2/22 VOICES panel ALANA Center 630 pm
2/28 BSU's Closing event. Time and place TBA

12. UVM Participates in RecycleMania! ----------------------------
Beginning January 30th, UVM will begin a 10 week long competition called
RecycleMania, in which 50 universities around the U.S. try to collect the
largest amount of recyclables from residence halls, on-campus apartments, and
dining halls, and in the end, see which university has the highest recycling
rate.

This program aims to increase recycling participation on campus among students
and staff, to heighten awareness of the participating school's waste management
and recycling programs, and to lower waste generated on campus by reducing,
reusing, and recycling. Weekly statistics will be posted at
http://www.recyclemaniacs.org.

So remember, RECYCLE paper, cans and bottles (#1 and 2 only!), as well as
cardboard, batteries (at your complex front desk or the SGA office), and much
more. Contact your ECO-Rep for more information, or check out
