On my way to pick up the Sunday papers in Pawlet I spotted a hawk feeding on something in a field off our dirt road. I put the glasses on him and was pleased to see it was peregrine. I went home and got the scope and was able to get some great views of him 60 or so yards away. Gorgeous bird. He was really feeding furiously. I hiked out into the field about 2 hours later and found the very sparse remains of a pigeon.
Some black ducks on the Mettowee River today and 2 different flocks of turkeys in the fields off Rt. 30 and our road. Also saw 3 or 4 robins along Rt. 30. Male pileated woodpecker still comes to the suet feeder every day.
