Taking advantage of the fine weather today, 03.30.05, a monthly monitoring
of this IBA was undertaken. Two weeks ago the north end of the lake, indeed
the whole lake, was completely frozen, hence no waterfowl. Today, a wedge of
open water has opened up, approximately 100 m long and 4 m wide at the
Birds recorded included: great blue heron (1), Canada goose (20), black duck
(2), common goldeneye (1), hooded merganser (8), and common merganser (6).
Ice fishermen were still on the ice south of the Grady Bridge.
