Last evening around 7pm, two American Woodcocks were calling and making
twittering flights just off Sperry Road in Cornwall. Also saw several ducks
and geese along the Lemon Fair floodplain just to the north of Rt 125 in
Cornwall. Mostly mallards, blacks, and Canada geese with a few
ringed-necked ducks and hoodies in the mix. I was most excited to hear the
"quacking" of a chorusing group of woodfrogs and a few individual "peeeps"
from the spring peepers.
Also, three bald eagles (2 adults, 1 immature) made a midmorning appearance
at the Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area (Brilyea Access) along with
several large mixed flocks of snow and canada geese (several hundred birds).
Spring has arrived in the Champlain Basin.
