A trip to Montreal Fri and Sat yielded amazing!!! and immediate views of
the Great Gray Owls (3). It is truely unbelievable how close you can get
and how oblivious they are to all the gawkers - some 10 or so on Fri all
with huge lens pointing at the birds. I would say picture of this owl
will be a 'dime a dozen' given the numbers that have been taken.
We visited another easy to get to site on the E. side of the St. Lawrence
for Boreal Owl, Great Horned Owl and Saw Whet. The first two were kindly
pointed out to us by a local birder and the last we found ourselves. It
turned out to be in a line of cedars a mear 20' from where our car was
parked on the road!
So we calculated to make it a 5 owl day by ticking a Barred Owl back on
home ground. WALA!!! We caught one flying by our car at 7:30
pm!!!! What a day. What weather! What birds!
