I stopped off at Dead Creek this afternoon (3/21) to see how things were thawing out. The ice is still largely in place, so much so that Snowmobilers had no fears of driving across it, but it is starting to considerably open up beneath the stone and causway dams where I saw a Mink swiming. It shouldn't be long before it is opened up enough to attract ducks.
While I was there, two seperate flocks of Snow Geese flew over, the first with 128, the second 113 birds. Also present were two Rough-Legged Hawks, two Red-Tailed Hawks, and two Red-Winged Blackbirds.
I also saw my first flock of RWBBs here in Middlbury today as well.
