Discussion of Vermont Values to be Held May 6
Event is free and open to the public.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Representatives of varied interests from around the state
will gather together on May 6 at Middlebury College to take part in a
discussion titled: Finding Common Ground: An Exploratory Workshop on
Vermont's Future in the Age of Climate Change . The event will run from 12
to 5 pm in the Middlebury College Kenyon Arena Lounge (off of Route
30). It is co-convened by Middlebury College, Vermont Businesses for
Social Responsibility, and Vermont Natural Resources Council, and will be
run and facilitated by Middlebury College students.

Attendees represent eight sectors of Vermont life: agriculture, business,
education, environment, fraternal organizations, outdoor recreation,
religion, and social justice. All those present will engage in a
discussion of Vermont values in an attempt to begin to map the landscape of
the cares of Vermonters. Participants will also hear a talk on the current
state of climate change issues and how they apply in particular to
Vermont. The rest of the day will be devoted to seeing what place these
values might have in the broad context of dealing with climate change.

Students planning and facilitating the event are members of a
service-learning course, Conservation and Environmental Policy. They,
along with many professionals in environmental affairs, feel a need for a
refocus of environmental concerns towards a broader vision. They see this
meeting as a first step in that direction for Vermont, providing an opening
of the public sphere for civil discourse. To this end, in addition to the
representation from the eight sectors, this event is free and open to the
public, with reservations appreciated.

If interested in attending or learning more, please contact event
coordinators Jonathan Isham at [log in to unmask] or Diane Munroe at
