Thanks to everyone who helped with the bird I saw at Shelburne Pond. I'm thinking from all the response I got from folks that it probably was a Northern Harrier. I'm confident it wasn't an Osprey as I'm much more familiar with them...I'd never seen a Harrier!
I think this is one of the best parts of this list-serve, help with and confirmation of identification of what's been seen. Learning to describe what I've seen accurately to others is adding to my skills as a birder and sharing what I've seen has introduced me to new people and new places to bird.
