The Tufted Duck was seen Wed. around noon by a southern contingent of
birdwatchers. Thanks for the list for keeping us up-to-date about this
bird. Views from the Colchester causeway offer great opportunities to
compare Scaup (altho. I still have trouble with separating Lesser and
Greater), Ring-necked and Golden-eye.
The second highlight of the day was a Bonaparte's Gull among hundreds of
Ring-billed (one immature Herring) Gulls floating in the lake at Charlotte
Beach. And the third was both Golden-crowned Kinglets - 5 and Ruby-crowned
Kinglet 1 seen in same brushy area (Shelburne Point) at eye level.
We were most disappointed at the dirth of ducks on water-covered fields
through the (Otter Creek) Brandon area, north. Could someone please
comment on what they have been seeing? Are we too early or have we missed
Canada Geese (too many pairs everywhere!)
