On a quick walk to find the wood ducks this morning we were surprised by a lone YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER moving about near the sugarhouse. Then before we even reached the large beaver pond, we scared 4 WOOD DUCKS in the sugarbush. Three took off to the ponds and the fourth, a female, perched in a large maple calling softly. Wild to see these guys perching! What a treat...and I thought wood ducks were cool to look at in the water...perched in the trees was quite a sight. We tried to catch up with the others at the pond, but they're quite skittish and flew off before we could get a close-up look.
