Starting some time in September, I have a 2 year postdoc available for
someone who has interest in paleoclimates, paleoecology, and stable
isotopes. The work includes some general lab stuff, nothing that I don't
do myself, but that would include weighing, sample prep and the like. The
candidate will be responsible for setting up and getting to run properly a
Gas Bench, which will be delivered in September or October, 2005.
The fun part of the work includes field work in the Outback of Australia,
lots of good red wine, and some funny stories and times. In addition, you
will be working at the Geophysical Lab with a bunch of other active and
fun postdocs, in a lively academic intellectual environment. Benefits
include Friday afternoon beer, health insurance, high cost of living, and
cramped office space.
The work entails analyzing wombat teeth and bones (yes, the wombat!) and
eggshells from extinct and extant birds that we will be collecting. This
is the 4th rendition of a project with Giff Miller at the University of
Colorado and John Magee at Australian National University.
Applications for this position should be sent to Dr. Marilyn Fogel, in
care of this email address, as Word or pdf attachments. Include a CV, a
letter of interest, and let me know the timing of your availability. I am
very interested in WHY you might like to have a job like this and what you
might contribute.
