You wrote in part: "Discovering my SFTP membership meant my being
unwillingly added to other lists ... that is not so nice."
I too am "guilty" of having added to my e-mail distribution list the
names of people who did not request it. The reason is that I'm trying to
spread as widely as I can some ideas and information -- what I call
counter-propaganda -- that seem to me important (In fact, that's the reason
I originally contacted Steve Cavrak and suggested setting up this listserv).
I understand Claudia that you feel very strongly it shouldn't be done.
Maybe you're right. I've tried to rationalize the practice by putting at the
end of each of my "mass mailings" (which go out as BCC, Blind Carbon Copies)
If you want me to add or remove your name from my e-mail
distribution list, please let me know.
When anyone responds asking to be removed, I do so right away, and keep a
record of those requests, to prevent the possibility of inadvertently adding
them later on, as had occasionally happened in the beginning. It seems to be
a workable system that doesn't irritate folks.
