Eight To Be Inducted Into UVM Athletic Hall of Fame In 2005
37th Annual Celebration set for October 8th
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- A pair of NCAA champion alpine skiers, two baseball record
holders, two former top lacrosse scorers, a nationally-recognized soccer goalie
and one of the school’s all-time greats in swimming make up the eight former
University of Vermont student-athletes who will be inducted into UVM's Athletic
Hall of Fame this fall.
The UVM Athletic Hall of Fame class of 2005: former swimming standout Betsy Amos
'95; all-conference and all-New England baseball third baseman Marc "Tigger"
Choiniere ‘94; two-time NCAA alpine ski champion Gibson LaFountaine '95;
standout baseball pitcher George Plender '55; men's lacrosse standout Tim
Shannehan '91; NCAA alpine giant slalom champion Andrew Shaw '84; the 1989
National Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year, Jen Starr '90; and former
women's lacrosse All-American Carrie Towers '94.
The inductees will be lauded at the 37th annual Athletic Hall of Fame
Celebration and Dinner at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel on Saturday, October 8,
2005. The celebration will begin with a reception at 6:00pm and the dinner
beginning at 7:00pm. A portrait-hanging ceremony will be held at 4:30pm in the
Hall of Fame Room in Patrick Gym.
