At about 3:00 pm Thurs. afternoon a group of 8-10 birders watched what
appeared to be the whooper slowly fly south parallel to West St.   but
it didn't gain height as we watched. It was too far away to be
absolutely certain, and none of us had scopes on it but I don't know
what other huge white bird it could have been. (It took off from an area
in front of the cow barn where there were many working machines,  and
the farmer had seen the whooper earlier in the morning ). Again, none of
us was absolutely certain of the identification, but all were hoping,
