This is the Vermont bird report for Friday, June 24, 2005 covering the
period June 17 - 23, 2005.
An immature BALD EAGLE was spotted near Cookville Center on June
20th and a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen over Tinmouth Channel on the 22nd.
Five VIRGINIA RAILS were observed in the West Rutland Marsh on
June 21st, along with a SORA. A SORA was also spotted in Delta Park IBA on
the 20th.
A CASPIAN TERN was sighted at Delta Park on June 20th.
There was a report of a MURRE species being seen in the South
Bay of Lake Memphremagog in Newport on the 19th. Species confirmation is
pending until written and photographic reports are received.
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS, experiencing no shortage of food this
summer, were heard in Thetford Center, Hartland, Tinmouth Channel and the
West Rutland Marsh this week.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen on Monadnock Mt. in Lexington
on June 19th, and a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER nest was discovered in Moose Bog
on the 21st.
An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was observed in Moose Bog and in
Hartland on June 19th.
A BROWN THRASHER was singing in West Rutland Marsh on the 19th
of June.
There was a report of a pair of ORCHARD ORIOLES being seen in
Woodside Park in Essex on June 20th.
Ten PINE SISKINS were seen in Hardwick on June 23rd.
