.SHORT TERM (REST OF TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT)...

.PREVIOUS DISCUSSION...
(ISSUED 235 PM EDT MON JUN 27 2005)

SYNOPSIS...
STRONG JET CONTINUES TO PUSH SHORT WAVES OUT OF SW CONUS UNDER
UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WEST OF THE GREAT PLAINS, AND OVER RIDGE TO THE
EAST. HOWEVER, JET IS BEGINNING TO SHOW SIGNS OF LIFTING TO THE
NORTH AS A HIGH BUILDS IN OVER THE NEW MEXICO REGION. A 500 MB LOW
OVER THE TENNESSEE REGION WILL KEEP CLOUDS IN THE AREA AND TEMPS
LOWER THAN NORMAL, AND THIS IS LIKELY TO AFFECT US LATER IN THE
WEEK. HOWEVER, IN THE SHORT TERM AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE NE
CONUS WILL PROVIDE NO RELIEF AND CONTINUE THE HIGHER THAN AVERAGE
TEMPS EXPERIENCED OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS.

THESE TEMPS IN THE LOW 90'S COUPLED WITH DWPTS IN THE UPPER 60'S TO
LOW 70'S HAS CREATED A LOT OF INSTABILITY OVER OUR CWA THIS
AFTERNOON. CAPES ARE IN THE MID 2000 TO LOW 3000 J/KG RANGE
ACROSS ESSEX CO NY, ADDISON, SOUTHERN WASHINGTON, ORANGE, RUTLAND,
AND WINDSOR CO'S VT ALONG WITH LI'S OF -5 TO -6 C, THUNDERSTORMS
CONT TO DEVELOP ACROSS THIS REGION AND SOME WL BE SLOW MOVING/HEAVY
RAIN PRODUCERS. A WEAK BOUNDARY LEFT BEHIND FROM PREVIOUS CONVECTION
IS LOCATED FROM SW TO NE ACROSS VT AND HAS SERVED AS A BREEDING
GROUND FOR SOME OF THESE STORMS, WHILE ANOTHER BOUNDARY BEING
DEPICTED BY RADAR MOVING EAST ACROSS NY STATE IS BEGINNING TO
PRODUCE CONVECTION AS WELL. TERRAIN WILL ALSO PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN
THIS AFTERNOON'S STORMS, AS MOUNTAINOUS REGIONS SUCH AS THE
ADIRONDACK'S AND GREEN'S WILL CONTINUE TO BE FOCAL POINTS FOR
T-STORMS. ESSEX CO NY, ADDISON, AND RUTLAND CO'S VT SHOULD PAY
SPECIAL ATTENTION AS THESE BOUNDARIES BEGIN TO INTERSECT IN THEIR
REGION THIS AFTERNOON.

CURRENT SFC OBS SHOW; TEMPS IN THE LOW-MID 80'S ACROSS THE NE
KINGDOM WITH DWPTS IN THE MID 60'S TO LOW 70'S, TEMPS IN THE
MID-UPPER 80'S IN THE CHAMPLAIN VALLEY / SOUTHERN VT WITH DWPTS IN
THE UPPER 60'S TO LOW 70'S, AND TEMPS IN THE MID-UPPER 80'S ACROSS
OUR CWA PORTION OF NY STATE WITH DWPTS IN THE MID 60'S TO LOW 70'S .
RADAR TRENDS ARE SHOWING INCREASING ACTIVITY WITH STORMS BEGINNING
TO DEVELOP ALONG THE GREEN MTNS IN SOUTHERN VT.

SHORT TERM (TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT)...
THUNDERSTORMS CONT TO FORM ALONG A SFC BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM SRN
FRANKLIN COUNTY IN NEW YORK THROUGH THE NORTHEAST KINGDOM IN
VERMONT...AND INTO THE SRN CHV LATER THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT.
GIVEN THE UNSTABLE AIRMASS WITH CAPE VALUES IN EXCESS OF 2500 J/KG
AND LAPSE RATES NEAR 10C/KM...CONDITIONS ARE VERY FAVORABLE FOR
CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT. FCST SDGS SHOW PARCELS WL BE ABLE TO MIX DRY
ADIABATICALLY FROM AROUND 600MB ALLOWING FOR DEEP CONVECTION.
ALSO...WITH PWATS AROUND 2 IN AND SLOW FCST STORM MOTION...HEAVY
RAIN IS A THREAT WITH THESE STORMS AND THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS FOR
FLASH FLOODING. ANOTHER THREAT ASSOCIATED WITH THESE STORMS WL BE
THE POSSIBILITY FOR STRONG GUSTY WINDS APPROACHING 50 KTS. SLV WL
MISS OUT ON MOST OF THE CONVECTION THIS EVENING AS SUBSIDENCE EXISTS
AND SFC BDRY TOO FAR SOUTH TO TRIGGER STORMS THERE. CONVECTION WL
DISSIPATE AFTER SUNSET MAKING WAY FOR PARTLY CLDY SKIES OVERNIGHT
TONIGHT. WL MENTION CHCS POPS ACRS OUR CENTRAL/EASTERN CWA WITH
ENHANCED WORDING FOR HEAVY RAIN AND GUSTY WINDS. OTHERWISE...WITH
DWPTS IN THE UPPER 60S TO L70S WL FCST MINS A BIT HIGHER THEN
GUIDANCE.

TUESDAY WL BE SIMILAR TO MONDAY AS THE HOT HUMID AIR STAYS IN PLACE
OVER THE REGION. 85H TEMPS AROUND 18C WL AGAIN SUPPORT TEMPS IN THE
MID 80S TO LOWER 90S...WITH PROGGED DEWPOINT IN THE UPPER 60S TO LOW
70S IN THE CHV. CLOUDS FROM SOUTHERN SYSTEM MAY PREVENT TEMPS ACRS
SOUTHERN ZNS FROM REACHING THE U80S. SKIES SHOULD BE HAZY AND PARTLY
TO MOSTLY CLOUDY...INCREASING TOWARDS EVENING. THUNDERSTORMS WL
DEVELOP AGAIN IN THE LATE AFTERNOON TUESDAY ALONG THE US/CANADIAN
BORDER. SITUATION APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR TO TODAYS WITH FCST CAPE
VALUES OF 2500 J/KG AND PWATS NEAR 2 IN. TUESDAY NIGHT SHOULD BE
PARTLY CLOUDY BUT STILL HUMID ACRS THE CWA AFTER DIURNAL CONVECTION
DISSIPATES.

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY SHOULD BE ONLY SLIGHTLY COOLER WITH 85H
PROGGED TEMPS AROUND 15C. A SERIES OF SHORTWAVES WL MV THRU THE
NORTHERN FA KEEPING THE WEATHER UNSETTLED AND BRINGING CHC OF
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. OTHERWISE SKIES SHOULD BE MOSTLY CLOUDY
WITH LIGHT WINDS. WL CONT TO MENTION HIGHS IN THE 80S WITH THE CHCS
FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORM

LONG TERM (FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY)...
A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION ON FRIDAY WITH A CHANCE OF
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED. HAVE RAISED POPS TO 50 PERCENT
ON FRIDAY. A HIGH PRESSURE AREA OVER THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES EARLY
FRIDAY WILL BUILD SLOWLY EAST AND BE CENTERED OVER VERMONT AND
NORTHERN NEW YORK SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT...AND THEN MOVE OFF THE
NEW ENGLAND COAST ON MONDAY. WILL GO WITH A FAIR AND DRY FORECAST
FROM FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY. EXPECTING COOLER TEMPERATURES WITH
LOWER HUMIDITIES SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...BUT EXPECTING A RETURN TO
WARMER TEMPERATURES AND INCREASING HUMIDITY ON MONDAY AS THE HIGH
PRESSURE AREA OFF THE NEW ENGLAND COAST...BRINGS AN INCREASINGLY
MOIST SOUTHERLY FLOW INTO THE REGION.

AVIATION (18Z-18Z)...
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS VERMONT AND NORTHERN NEW YORK THIS
AFTERNOON ARE EXPECTED TO DISSIPATE BETWEEN 00Z-02Z WITH LOSS OF
DAYTIME HEATING. AREAS OF MVFR VISIBILITIES IN HAZE...OTHERWISE VFR
CONDITIONS. EXPECTING AREAS OF MVFR/IFR IN FOG TO DEVELOP AFTER 06Z
TONIGHT IN THE VALLEYS OF VERMONT AND NORTHERN NEW YORK...WITH SOME
POCKETS OF IFR/LIFR EXPECTED AFTER 06Z IN AREAS THAT RECEIVED ANY
RAINFALL FROM THIS AFTERNOONS SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS. EXPECTING ANY
FOG TO BURN OFF BY 12Z...BUT SOME AREAS OF MVFR VISIBILITIES IN HAZE
ARE EXPECTED AFTER 12Z ON TUESDAY.
