I would like to add something to the excellent discussion of nestbox
maintenance. If you would like a non-toxic alternative to 'parrot spray from
the pet store', you might try the following:
In a gallon of water, mix:
20-30 drops of Grape Seed Extract, ('GSA' from a natural foods store).
1/2 cup 20 Mule Team Borax.
To apply, put in a new spray bottle from a hardware store.
This can be made up a gallon at a time and stored indefinitely. I am
familiar with this formula for it's *excellence in eliminating mold*, and I
believe it's strong anti-biotic action would be effective in this situation
as well.
On the general subject, I have found this book to be a good resource for
easy, non-toxic household cleaning alternatives: "Clean and Green: The
Complete Guide to Non-Toxic and Environmentally Safe Housekeeping" by Annie
Berthold-Bond.
