From 3:30 to 4:00 PM today (7/20) at the Dead Creek Brilyea access, the Tricolored Heron was next to the causeway below the dam. It has become quite shallow there and it was stalking out in the open, darting after and picking up what I assume were aquatic insects off the top of the water. I had very good up close looks at this bird before it flew north towards it's regular area, though I could not find it again there when I looked.
And it only took me 5 trips to Dead Creek to find it.
