Seen on the Caldwell Loop (Pittsford Trail System) this a.m. The bird was so
close I couldn't use binoculars. I spent 15 minutes with him.
I'm considering this bird my consolation prize after driving to Cornwall
after work last Tuesday and missing the Whopping Crane.
Also, of interest...a family of hooded mergansers in Otter Creek, Indigo
Bunting, and Meadowlark.
The Caldwell Loop (2.3 miles) is one of my favorite places to bird in this
area. It is relatively flat and meanders through a variety of habitat: meadow,
farmland, woods, wetland. A good section of it runs alongside Otter Creek.
The trail is mowed in summer and is used by snowshoers and cross country skiers
in winter, but by in large it is underutilized which is part of its allure.
