All-Americans, 48 all-conference selections, 13 all-New England picks, 11
all-championship team honorees and broke 60 school records … Vermont also won
the America East Academic Cup for the 2004-05 season … Vermont student-athletes
posted a 3.14 grade-point average, the highest GPA in the 10-year history of
the award, breaking the mark of 3.12 set by the University of Maine in 2003-04.

FIELD HOCKEY (0-0, 0-0 America East): The University of Vermont field hockey
team opens the 2005 season on the road this weekend, traveling to take on
Bucknell on Friday, Aug. 26 and then Lock Haven the following day … The
Catamounts, who were picked to finish fifth in the America East Preseason
Coaches’ Poll, are coming off of a 3-15 campaign that included a 2-4 mark in
conference play a year ago ... Vermont finished in a three-way tie for fourth
in the league standings, but missed out on a playoff spot due to a tiebreaker …
Nine starters return for the Catamounts led by seniors Merrie-Beth Maynard
(Waterbury Center, Vt.) and Ariel Eber (Plainfield, N.J.), who each earned
America East All-Conference First Team honors last season … Sophomore Danielle
Collins (Walpole, Mass.) led the team in scoring last year as a freshman with
six goals and two assists for 14 points … Vermont returns eight of its top 10
scorers from last season and its top two goalkeepers … Seven newcomers will be
added to head coach Nicki Houghton’s squad this season, including three from
Vermont … The Catamounts will call a brand new state-of-the-art, all weather
artificial turf field home this season as the Catamounts will play on campus
for the first time since 2003 … Vermont opens the home portion of its schedule
on Sept. 9 when the Catamounts host Sacred Heart.

MEN’S SOCCER (0-0, 0-0 America East): Head Coach Jesse Cormier’s Catamounts were
picked fifth in the America East Preseason Coaches’ Poll released by the

seventh in New England … Senior captains Jesse Brady-Searby (Petersburgh,
N.Y.), Matt Chew (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Jason Leahy (St. Albans, Vt.) along
with juniors Corey Bronner (Morrisville, Vt.) and Patrick Wyld (West Simsbury,

Friday and then face NCAA defending national champion and the No. 1 ranked team
in the 2005 NSCAA Preseason Poll, Notre Dame, on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. …

season … She returns the top three scorers from the past three years – Jamie
Koehnlein (Honeoye, N.Y.), Nikkie Hessney (Victor, N.Y.) and Amy Cochran
(Keene, N.H.) – to the lineup this season … Koehnlein was the MVP of the Brown
& Gold Shootout as Vermont captured the tournament title in Wyoming last season
… Hessney returns to action after sitting out last season with an injury and
Cochran was the leading scorer in America East last season with school record
marks for goals (13) and points (31) … The Catamounts also add 10 newcomers to
