On Tuesday morning, 8/9, I spotted a juvenile Hairy Woodpecker at our
feeders. It took me a while to figure out it wasn't a female Hairy with
pollen all over her forehead, but instead a juvenile with orange on the
forehead just above the beak; I've never seen a juvenile woodpecker
before. This morning he was back and I was interested to see that he
didn't let any other birds on the feeder where he was feeding (a large
tube feeder with a platform-like bottom where he was stationed). WIthout
any agressive behavior, he made it clear to the Blue Jay and Pigeon that
they would have to wait their turn. This they did on a branch about 6"
from the feeder.
