Matt Chew and Cassandra VanLeeuwan Named Vermont Student-Athletes of the Week

BURLINGTON, Vt. ? Senior Matt Chew (Clifton Park N.Y.) from the men?s soccer
team and junior Cassandra VanLeeuwen (Tillsonburgh, Ontario) from the women?s
soccer team are the Vermont Student-Athletes of the Week.

Chew scored a pair of goals on his way to being named to the all-tournament team
at the Nike Fall Soccer Classic in Durham, N.H., this past weekend. The
tri-captain has started 42 of 47 games in his career as he helped lead the
Catamounts to a 2-0 win over Quinnipiac and a 3-1 win over Iona in the
tournament. With the two wins the Catamounts are now 2-0 to begin a season for
the first time since 1994.

Vermont hosts the 15th annual Smith  Barney/Nike Soccer Classic on Friday and
Sunday. Perennial national power San  Francisco will play New Hampshire in the
classic opener at 2:00 p.m. at  Centennial Field on Friday with Vermont facing
Army in the 4:30 p.m. nightcap.  Sunday, UNH will take on Army at 11:00 a.m.
and the Catamounts will play USF in the final game at 1:15 p.m.

VanLeeuwen scored a pair of goals in Vermont?s 4-2 win over Marist last week
as the Catamounts picked up their first win in 2005. In 34 career games
VanLeeuwen now has 13 goals. The Catamounts are 7-0 since 2004 in games
VanLeeuwen scores a goal.

The Catamounts are in the midst of a six-game road swing that continues in
Pittsburgh, Pa., at the Duquesne Tournament on Sept. 9 and 11. Vermont will
face the host Duquesne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday (9/9) and then play Robert Morris
at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday (9/11).
