Vermont Women's Soccer Suffers Loss at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Freshman Shannon Rengers netted a hat trick as the Duquesne
Dukes posted a 7-0 shutout against visiting Vermont (1-4-0) in the first day of
action at the Duquesne Invitational.
Rengers opened the scoring for the Dukes in the 18th minute. She collected a
thru pass from teammate Christin Goodfellow and slotted a shot past Vermont
goalkeeper Elana Cockburn (Chestnut Hill, Mass.). In the 25th minute, Audra
Mathews made it 2-0 Duquesne, placing a low shot on the near post post
Cockburn. Rengers added her second tally of the evening two minutes later,
heading in cross from Mathews. The Dukes added two more goals in the 38th and
42nd minutes to close out the half and take a 5-0 lead into the locker room.
Rengers attacked again two minutes into the second half, finishing a loose ball
off Randi Scheller's corner kick to make the score 6-0 in favor of Duquesne.
Jenna Farneti closed out the scoring in the game with a blast from 10 yards
Duquesne (2-0-1) out shot Vermont 21-9 in the game. Virginia Bondi and Lyndsay
O'Connell combined to make six saves in the Dukes' net. Cockburn was credited
with four saves in 53 minutes, whlie Laura Kissock (Albuquerque, N.M.) made
four stops in 37 minutes of action for the Catamounts.
The Catamounts return to action on Sunday when they face Robert Morris at
11:00am in the second round of the Duquesne Invitational.
