We, too, have been seeing young Cardinals at the feeders in the last week
or two, and mostly in the company of males. Some are just coming into
their adult plumage and one has very little crest showing yet. Yesterday
afternoon a Brown Thrasher was enjoying seeds in the unmown paddock behind
the house, as well as numerous Goldfinches. At the feeders we have
Titmice, House Finches, the occasional Purple Finch (mostly females),
Black-capped Chickadees, Mourning Doves, Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers,
White-breasted Nuthatches and Rock Doves. The feeders have been emptying
quickly.
