Just back from a marvelous visit to Monhegan Island, Maine.  As most of you know, this is an enchanting little island (no cars and gorgeous scenery) and a famous migrant trap. On Thursday, September 22, we had 18 species of warbler including Yellow-breasted Chat, Mourning Warbler and Northern Waterthrush. Other birds that day included Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Dickcissel, Clay-colored Sparrow and offshore both Manx and Greater Shearwater!  Our total tally for the three days was 21 species of warbler so we were in heaven.  To top it off, the Island Inn is a very nice place to stay with an excellent dining-room.

I encourage Mad Birders to consider a visit to Monhegan. It can be done as a day trip, but ideally one should plan on a visit of two or three days.  Happy to provide more information for anybody interested.
