I stopped again (twice) yesterday at the same Norwich field visited on
9/22. Weather conditions were very different, with cool air and a brisk NW
At 1:30 pm, I found 7 Cabbage Whites, 8 Clouded Sulphurs, 1 Orange Sulphur,
and 1 Silver-spotted Skipper.
At 5 pm, I found 2 Cabbage Whites, 7 Clouded Sulphurs, 1 E. Tailed-Blue,
and 1 Monarch.
I was surprised at the reduced level of butterfly (also bee and dragonfly)
activity in just one day's time. I had thought the cold front might
stimulate more Monarchs to be moving, but there were far more during the
previous day's strong southerly winds.
