Not a dumb question.. and one that is on many minds lately.
The ILN is not dead. It is definitely a period of limbo right now, but
all schools with ILN setups can continue to use the system as long as they
migrate it over to their own network. Those instructions went out in the
spring and I am attaching them here again as well.
Essentially, the State of Vermont has some money to support a management
contract for an entity to manage the ILN. That RFP is going out soon, and
whoever gets that contract would then manage the ILN probably much like we
did here at VI, posting up a calendar of events and making bridging
services available for conference calling.
In its present state, the system will only allow for point to point calls
So, if Verizon shows up to pull the card, that is fine, we are not using
those ATM circuits anymore, and they belong to Verizon...
The state, or any other entity is not coming to take any other equipment
away from you. That Cisco router that the system was using is not
necessary anymore and you are free to use it however you wish..Email me
separately for the configuration passwords.
So, the system is not dead, and we would really like to stress that to
folks so that equipment doesn't end up getting cannibalized for other
classrooms. Sit tight a bit on the equipment and we will alert you when
the management contract is out...
VI is not in a position right now to provide significant support for this,
but we can provide some minimal assistance in your transition over to
You are free to call our ILN site to test yours if you need to ...it is
The IP number you will need to call is 126.96.36.199
At some point I will ask for your IP number so we can post those for all
