Hi all,
I'm a long-time "listner", first-time "caller" to the list (well second if you
count the fish source). I just wanted to let everyone in on a Graduate Student
conference hosted by Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the 8th
Annual Chemistry and Biochemistry Graduate Research Conference, being held
November 18th and 19th.
The CBGRC is a symposium that showcases graduate level work from universities
across Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes and the North-eastern United States. Now
in its 8th year, the conference was founded on the idea of not only giving
students the unique experience of presenting their research in a formal
setting, but to provide ties between academia and industry. The conference has
a competitive format where participants register in either the poster or oral
presentations in English or French. Awards are presented for both oral and
poster presentations. Students are judged based on quality and originality of
their research and their presentation . The competition is open to all students
presenting research in the following categories: 1) Analytical Chemistry 2)
Inorganic Chemistry 3) Physical Chemistry 4) Organic Chemistry 5) Molecular
Biology 6) Biochemistry 7) Environmental Chemistry 8) Neuroscience
However, the Environmental Chemistry section has yet to see Isotopes being
presented to this diverse group, and I think this year would be a wonderful
time to introduce any work which any Grad students may be working on at this
year's CBGRC (Supervisors are invited to attend as well).
Registration is only $55, and covers two days, including lunch on both days, a
wine & cheese on Friday and an after party held in downtown Montreal at the end
of the Saturday session.
We already anticipate close to 200 participants, and since the diversity is so
great, it leads to great discussions and sharing of ideas, including new
perspectives on trying to solve any problems which may be dogging you now.
The registration deadline is November 5th, (although we still usually accept
registration up until about a week before the conference).
So if you are a student, or if you have students, check our website at

or feel free to ask me any questions.
Cheers,
Robert J. Panetta
