I have been trying to conduct regular late afternoon surveys of an unmowed
aster-goldenrod field (8-10 acres) in Norwich. It is the only local site
I've found with reasonable numbers of Monarchs this fall, and I've so far
tagged 54. Numbers of the few remaining species vary day to day, but have
definitely declined during the past week.
Below are totals for 9/24, 9/27, 9/28, 9/30, and 10/1 (dates separated by /):
Cabbage White -- 5/11/5/0/1
Clouded Sulphur -- 8/9/11/3/7
Orange Sulphur -- 1/2/3/1/2
American Copper -- 0/0/1/0/0 (ID not 100%, as it was a rapid fly-by)
E. Tailed-Blue -- 2/0/1/0/0
American Lady -- 1/0/1/1/0
Painted Lady -- 2/0/0/0/0
Monarch -- 14/0/11/3/1
