Here in the Midwestern US most of our bottled CO2 now is modern as it is
a byproduct of ethanol generation from corn. A quick check would be to
look at the delta 13C and see if it is -12 (corn) or -45 (methane) or 0
(carbonates). Unfortunately, you may not have ethanol plants in
Ireland. But I'll bet you have landfills. The CO2 from most landfills
is modern. Most mature landfills probably have gas vents or flares on
them. It would be relatively simple to bubble this gas through a CaCl2
solution to collect a large amount of CO2 with a modern 14C signature.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [ISOGEOCHEM] "Alive 14CO2"
we are searching for a CO2-gas supplier with modern 14C signature. We
it to use as working standard. The local suppliers process the CO2 from
dead 14C sources (natural gas, carbonates...)
Does anybody know about any CO2-gas supplier which obtains the CO2 from
modern carbon source (with "alive 14C signature")?
Thanks a lot,
