Carnival

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Senior Jamie Kingsbury (Waitsfield, Vt.) and
sophomore Greg Hardy (Stratton, Vt.) each won the slalom to lead the
University of Vermont Ski Team to its second carnival victory of the
season in day two of the St. Lawrence Carnival in Lake Placid, N.Y. The
Catamounts finished the weekend with 787 team points, ahead of second
place Middlebury (741 points) and third place Dartmouth (647 points).

“Overall we looked really good on the weekend,” Director of Skiing and
head alpine coach, Bill Reichelt said. “Unfortunately we had some
injuries on the women’s alpine team but the men’s alpine team continues
to come together and the Nordic team is right on. Now it would be great
to go home and get a win at the Vermont Carnival this weekend.”

Hardy won his second race of the weekend by taking the slalom,
following up his first place in the giant slalom yesterday. Sophomore
Zac Brown (Sun Valley, Idaho) continued his strong weekend with a fifth
place finish and freshman Craig Leaman (Waterville Valley, N.H.) was
15th overall.

In the women’s slalom Vermont had three top-10 finishes led by
Kingsbury’s first place. The tri-captain has finished in the top-three
in all four of her races so far this season. Sophomore Jilyne McDonald
(Bellevue, Wash.) picked up a fourth place and senior Amy Cochran
(Keene, N.H.) was eighth.

The Catamounts return to action next weekend in the Vermont Carnival in
Stowe, Vt., on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4. On Saturday after a
day of skiing or cheering on the Vermont Ski Team fans, friends and
family are invited to Stoweflake for a reception from 4:00pm-6:00pm.
The event includes family-friendly activities such as sleigh rides and
ice skating (bring your own skates!). Alpine coach Bill Reichelt,
Nordic coach Alan Serrano and the Vermont skiers will be on hand to
join in the festivities. Registration is online at
alumni.uvm.edu/wintercarnival or by calling 1-888-458-8691. There is no
cost for this event.
